Merging Fine Art and Design

Thursday October 13th: 7:00PM - 8:30PM
Ticket Price: Free; registration required.

Design seeks to transform space to be as comfortable and familiar as home. Traditionally, public spaces install artwork. A painting is hung on a wall, or a sculpture is placed. There is potential, in this scenario, for the artwork to in some way to be diminished as a decorative object or even kitsch. Val Nehez is interested in design installation that burrs these boundaries by breaking the "4th" wall between decor object and art object.

She will present the work of artists and designers who are working collaboratively to create site-specific interactive work where the disciplines of interior design and fine art are fused. We will look at examples of the artistic vision being expressed directly through the environment itself where the design strengthens our connections to place, each other and ourselves.
